Indian Forest Service (Preliminary) Examination 2026 – Notification Released

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the official notification for the Indian Forest Service (Preliminary) Examination 2026, to be conducted through the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2026.

  • Reservation is applicable for PwBD categories as per Government norms.


⚠️ Important Information for Candidates

  • Candidates applying for Indian Forest Service (IFS) must appear and qualify in the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2026.

  • Candidates can apply for both Civil Services Examination and Indian Forest Service Examination through a common online application form, subject to eligibility.


🎓 Educational Qualification

Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in at least one of the following subjects from a recognized university:


🎂 Age Limit (as on 01 August 2026)

  • Minimum Age: 21 Years

  • Maximum Age: 32 Years
    (Born between 02 August 1994 and 01 August 2005)

Age Relaxation:

  • SC/ST: 5 Years

  • OBC: 3 Years

  • Defence Services Personnel: As per rules

  • Ex-Servicemen: Up to 5 Years

  • PwBD: Up to 10 Years


🧾 How to Apply Online

Candidates must apply online only through the UPSC portal.

Step-by-Step Process:

  1. Visit: https://upsconline.nic.in

  2. Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) to generate URN

  3. Fill the Common Application Form (CAF)

  4. Upload:

    • Photograph (including live photo capture)

    • Signature (signed 3 times on white paper)

    • Photo ID proof

  5. Select examination centre

  6. Pay the application fee (if applicable)

  7. Submit the application and download confirmation

⚠️ No correction or withdrawal is allowed after submission.


🆔 Photo ID Requirement

Candidates must carry one valid Photo ID:

The same ID must be carried to the examination centre and interview.


💰 Application Fee

  • ₹100 – General / OBC / EWS (Male candidates)

  • No Fee – Women, SC, ST, PwBD candidates


📍 Examination Centres (Prelims)

The examination will be conducted across 80+ cities in India including:

Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Jaipur, Patna, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Coimbatore, Kochi, Guwahati, Shillong, Imphal, Port Blair, Leh, Srinagar and many more.

👉 Centres are allotted on a first-apply-first-allot basis.


🧪 Plan of Examination

The Indian Forest Service Examination consists of two stages:

  1. Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination – Objective Type

  2. Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination – Written + Interview

Only candidates qualifying Prelims will be eligible for the Main Examination.


⚠️ Important Exam Instructions

  • Negative marking is applicable for wrong answers.

  • Only black ball pen is allowed for OMR sheets.

  • Mobile phones, smart watches, electronic devices are strictly banned.

  • Face Authentication will be mandatory at the examination centre.

  • Candidates must report at least 30 minutes before exam time.

  • e-Admit Card will be available one week before the exam
